This guideline states that the Board of Trustees is required to foster student achievement by providing teaching and learning programmes which incorporate the New Zealand Curriculum (essential learning areas, essential skills and attitudes and values) as expressed in National Curriculum Statements.

The Board, through the principal and staff will:
Develop and implement teaching and learning programmes and monitor student progress. Specific attention will be given to developing and implementing programes targeting students and groups of students who, are not achieving, at risk of not achieving, have special needs (including gifted and talented students), and aspects of the curriculum which require particular attention. The school's Maori community will be consulted with
regard to policies, plans and targets for improving the achievement of Maori students. Students in year 7 and 8 will begin to receive career education and guidance.
