Marian Hockey Registration and Information 2016

Welcome to Marian Hockey

Winter Hockey is played in Terms 2 & 3

Modules being offered by Waikato Hockey Association this year are:

Kiwi Sticks Development: this stage is designed to introduce players to the sport of hockey on a quarter turf. Some schools will have sufficient numbers to enter teams wholly of Years 1 and 2 however players up to Year 6 that have minimal experience at playing hockeyare eligible and where possible are encouraged to commence their hockey journey in this stage.

Kiwi Sticks: this stage is designed for the more experienced hockey players, more likely to be from Years 4 through to Year 6 and will be played on half turf.

The 2016 season starts on Saturday 7 May with a "festival” style tournament held over the first two weeks with grading of teams following for the next few weeks. Depending on numbers of entries we aim to have two shorter version games each week.

All games are played Saturday mornings or early afternoons at Gallagher Hockey centre, Queens Ave, Hamilton.

The final playing numbers and mix will determine which modules we enter teams in.

Every team will require a Coach, Manager and an Umpire for every game.

Waikato run numerous coaching and referee courses for those who are interested.

Teams will be announced before Friday 1st April 2016

Game etiquitte
Parents often comment on the positive atmosphere at our hockey games, and we want to keep it that way!  Support your team enthusiastically.  Thank the coaches and umpires.
Players should give the other team 3 cheers at the end of the game and line up to shake hands.
Swearing, spitting, verbal abuse of umpires or players are not acceptable and may result in a ban from the grounds.

It is very rare for mini hockey to be cancelled as we play on an artificial surface.
Sometimes we do experience flooding on the turf, but this drains away quickly once the rain stops.
Since Hamilton weather can vary a lot from hour to hour, and suburb to suburb we do not broadcast cancellations on the radio. We ask that individual parents do not phone in, as 800 parents all calling the hockey centre overloads the phone system, and no-one can get through!!!!
If weather conditions are severe (heavy rain & strong winds) games will not go ahead.
Cancelations will appear on the Homepage of the website.
